Nursery

In Autumn 2006 we opened a new nursery class for children aged 3 and over living in Emerson Valley and the surrounding areas.  The class is  situated in a brand new purpose built nursery on the Howe Park site.

Facilities

The nursery has been carefully designed to meet the needs of 3 and 4 year olds.  It has a large indoor play area, a quiet room, parent meeting room, kitchen, laundry and changing facilities.  The class has its own outdoor play area which provides opportunities for imaginative play, building and construction, physical activity and scientific and environmental  discovery.  Part of the area is covered and there is a safety surface for  climbing apparatus.

The nursery has the most up to date facilities and resources, carefully selected for their educational value.  It includes the latest interactive whiteboard for use by staff and children and 2 computers with a wide range of software.

Although the nursery stands alone with its own security fence it is part of Howe Park School.  Children are able to use the facilities in the main school including the school grounds and environmental area, our computer suite and fully equipped hall.

Staff

The nursery is staffed by a qualified teacher supported by a qualified nursery nurse and teaching assistants.

Curriculum

Children in the Nursery follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum. The curriculum underpins all future learning by developing children’s:

  • personal, social and emotional well-  being
  • positive attitudes towards their learning
  • social skills
  • attention skills
  • language and communication
  • reading and writing
  • mathematics
  • knowledge and understanding of the world
  • physical development
  • creative development

When children enter the nursery, our staff assess what they know, understand and can do and plan a programme for them according to their needs.

Starting Howe Park Nursery

The normal admission point is in September each year.  Priority will be given to children who will be 4 during that school year.

Where there are vacant places these will be allocated during the year to eligible children.

Younger children may be admitted in the term following their 3rd birthday if there are vacancies during the year.

Administrative Arrangements

Please use the nursery application form if you would like to apply for a place for your child.  Forms should be returned to the school.  The school will notify parents when a place can be offered.  If you wish to look around the nursery please call to make an appointment.
